Ever since 2001, Sept. 11 will always be a day of remembrance. Tempe Beach Park displayed about 3,000 U.S. flags during its Healing Field event Tuesday. The flags are tribute to the lives lost during terrorist attacks against our country 11 years ago.
From Sept. 9 – Sept. 11, residents were able to visit Town Lake, at no charge, and experience this monumental affair.
Walking around the flags, some visitors wept, some stood still and observed each flag.
Tied to some of the flags, designated for first responders, were yellow ribbons, according to a the Healing field Committee in the City of Tempe.
Guests were reading memory cards attached to each flagpole. The cards displayed the names of victims, their ages, their hometown and what happened when planes crashed into the World Trade Center.
