This weekend Queen Elizabeth II celebrates her 60th year as Monarch. Queen Elizabeth II, born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary, was crowned on June 2nd 1953, just slightly a year after she ascended the throne (6 February 1952). She was crowned Monarch of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Ceylon, and Pakistan, as well as taking on the role of Head of the Commonwealth. She has 4 children, 8 grand children and 30 godchildren.
She is the 40th Monarch since William the Conqueror was crowned king on Christmas Day 1066, in London.
In total there will be nearly 10,000 street parties around the UK, with a record attempt breaking one being held in Morecambe, which is a seaside town in Lancashire. The previous record being set by a Combe Martin in Devon on June 3rd 2002 which was 1.5 miles long.
