This biopic features Meryl Streep in an Oscar winning performance as former British Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher. The film also won an Oscar for make up. Thatcher is shown in her elder years, as she combats dementia and the nearly constant hallucination that her husband Denis is still alive. The film flashes back to times throughout her life, showing her rise to political power. I found the movie a bit boring. Streep’s performance was remarkable, and Thatcher’s story is an important one historically but the movie just didn’t grab me. The most interesting part was her struggle with the hallucinations, but that wasn’t enough to sustain the whole film. I found myself snoozing by the end. With apologies to Meryl Streep, who truly is a master actor, I give The Iron Lady a mere 2.5 artichokes.
